Week 8

 Ideations:

- Stylized
- Japanese animation
- Vibrant color

Our group wanted to create a room-scale VR experience. We began by exploring various resources and scrolling through the Unity assets store. We discovered that the stylized assets, with their unique and visually striking designs, resonated most with our group's vision for the project.

Recognizing the potential of these stylized assets, we started brainstorming ideas about the artistic direction and overall aesthetic of our project. One crucial decision we needed to make was selecting an artist model whose style would align with the themes and visual elements we aimed to incorporate.

We discussed various options, considering different artists and their signature styles, to determine who could best bring our creative vision to life.

Artist Research

Hayao Miyazaki:

Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, is a legendary figure in the world of animation, often revered for his classic art direction and storytelling. The style of the environment often leans into oil painting yet richly detailed, whether they depict busy urban centers, serene natural landscapes, or fantastical worlds. His ability to create immersive environments stems from his careful observation of the world around him and his ability to infuse these observations with imagination and wonder.
Color and light play crucial roles in Miyazaki’s art style. His films often feature vibrant, carefully chosen color palettes that enhance the emotional tone of the story. Light is used masterfully to create mood and atmosphere, such as the ethereal glow of the spirits in "Spirited Away" or the dappled sunlight filtering through trees in "My Neighbor Totoro."

Makoto Shinkai:

Makoto Shinkai's films are renowned for their meticulously crafted backgrounds that often resemble real-world photographs more than traditional animation. The use of light, shadow, and color to create realistic urban and natural landscapes is visually stunning. These settings are not mere backdrops but integral to the narrative, enhancing the emotional depth of his stories.
The use of light is particularly notable. Often employs glowing, ethereal light sources that create a sense of magic and wonder. The color palettes are vibrant and varied, from the warm, golden hues of a sunset to the cool, calming blues of a night sky. This brilliant use of color enhances the emotional tone of his scenes.
